Day 17

It is 11/22/19. Today I continued planning my photo shoot by looking for models to use in my magazine. Throughout the process, I had to consider the garments that I wanted my model to wear, so  I focused on finding people who's style matched the streetwear look that I was going for. This narrowed down my choices for the outfits as well as who I would ask to be my model; however, a dilemma occurred when I was finding participants for my shoot because they were either camera shy or too busy. However, I did manage to find one model who was willing to do the shoot, his name is Michael. Him and I conversed about the outfit ideas that I had for the shoot as well as when we would meet up to take the photo shoot. We decided that we would meet up over our Thanksgiving break to do the photo shoot and that it would take place in Downtown Sarasota, Florida.

Day 16

It is 11/21/19. Today I worked on figuring the basics of how my Nikon camera works, because this was my first time using a professional camera. I decide to use this professional camera instead of my iPhone because it is able to capture higher quality shots at 1080p as compared to my camera's 780p. The camera also allows you to hold the focus of a shot for a longer period of time, and can come back into focus at a quicker speed; this is one of the main reasons that i choose to use this camera because I do not have steady hands so this will make it easier for me to take my pictures. As I was learning about my camera, I found that when your in a setting with bright natural lighting that you want to adjust the camera's lighting to be slightly darker than the natural light so that your models skin color is vivid in the shot, so when you  use the flash and this also creates room for changes in the lighting during the editing process. I also learned the it is easier to take shots when looking through the viewfinder as opposed to the LCD display screen because the camera allows you to take the pictures with quicker and with the flash.

Day 15

It is 11/20/19. My group and I did not collaborate much today, because I was focused on planning my photo shoot. I started by, looking at what type of clothes my model would be showcasing which is based on the season of fashion (winter) and my audience (teens) that my magazine is focused on. I later began looking through different fashion magazines and their different seasonal editions such as Allure, teen Vogue, and British GQ , for insight on the new trends, as well as the timeless trends. I decided that my model would wear warmer garments: a denim jacket, a long sleeve shirt, jeans, and sneakers that have a more sturdy and chunky look as opposed to a pair of Vans slip ons because they do not have the chunky look that is popular mainly during the fall/winter seasons. I choose these pieces because they are versatile to all seasons, and almost any event.
The pieces shown below are not the official clothing items that will be used in the photo shoot.

Day 14

It is 11/19/19. Today my group and I finished deciding on the fonts that we are using in our magazine cover. I began creating drafts of what my cover page would look like and this is what I came up with these are not the finial fonts or pictures that will be used, the. pictures are from the website)

The 1st ruff draft of my magazine

For this draft the title is the biggest text of the cover, I used Bebas Neue font. The title is red because it is eye catching and goes hand in hand with the large bold text; red is also the most alluring/attractive color according to psychological research. Unlike the title, the rest of the fonts are smaller and in white; however, the fonts are all minimalist style text. The cover picture will not be the actual image on the finished product, but I choose this picture because the model has a subtle look over her shoulder to which gives her a debonair look.

Day 13

It is 11/14/19,. Yesterday we could not take the pictures because my model had an emergency, so we rescheduled the photo shoot to some time next week; however, nothing will change, we will do it in he same place, time, model ad outfit. I also began researching the type of interview/ article questions that I am going to need. First I looked at some fashion magazine articles to see how they setup there article, such as what they talked about, what they focused on, and what type of research they did. I looked at various magazines, such as Vogue, glamour and Instyle. The magazines all seemed to have their pictures on a separate page, and on top of their article, or the article around the picture. The article mainly showed a fully body shot,  because it captured the model's outfit; however, the articles also had some as a mid-shot, these shots tend to be a more focused shot which is used when showing off a model's pants, hat, shirt because it shows off the specific apparel.

Day 12

It is 11/13/19. Today I am taking my pictures for my magazine. My model will be my friend Michael Ortiz; I am having him wear white air forces, brown cargo pants, a red flannel, accompanied by a grey under shirt, and lastly a white beanie. We will be taking our shots in downtown Sarasota which was discussed in my last post; however, we decided to take the pictures during the afternoon because that fit our schedules.

Day 11

It is 11/11/19. Over the weekend my group and i got together and took our pictures for our magazine. I decided to take my pictures in a winter holiday decorated area, because in a warm places like Florida it is hard to show that it is winter on pictures. I had my model wear warm weather close such as a hoodie with a denim jacket. I did not have any specific shot , so i took a variety of shots to see the angels that I liked the best. Today I will be going through all the pictures separating the good ones from the bad ones. after doing so, I did a reflection on my pictures and evaluated myself to see what shots  I needed to work on. I next had to narrow down the pictures that I would use  for the magazine.

Day 10

It is 11/8/19. Today my group and I discussed when we were going to do our photo shoot. First I had to consider the setting, which I decided to be in the morning, in this city, and with winter holiday decorations in the background. I choose this for my setting because our city has very mesmerizing winter decorations, and it does not snow in south Florida, so the decorations will show the type of season that my topic will focus on. I also had to plan out the outfits; which I decided to have my model wear boots, jeans, a jacket, and a beanie. I choose this outfit because in Florida our winter is fairly warm when compared to everywhere else in America, hence why I did not make my model wear big warm outfits such as snow boots, puffy jackets, etc. I finished by doing research on the specific spot where I would take my pictures. I decided to take the shots in the center of the downtown area of my city because they set most of the holiday decorations there.

Day 9

It is 11/6/19. Today my group and I came up with our slogan. We started to brainstorm ideas related to clothes, but is also authentic. After countless minutes of pondering we came up with the slogan:
" Explore your true style." We choose this slogan because it relates to style, it promotes looking at our magazine for inspiration and/or or any style ideas, and it is catchy.
We also began planning when we were going to do the photo shoot. We decided to do it on the weekend because it works with our schedules .We then discussed the type of shots we were going to have to take, what models to use, what time of day, and what clothes we would have them wear. I decided that i would take a medium close up shot for my cover page because the cover will be the mode of address that appeals to my audience and a full body shot for my article because it would capture my models outfit that I will be discussing in my article. As for what time of day i was thinking one shot out in the day and one at night because i would be able to show something more casual for the morning and an outfit more elegant for the night. My magazines focuses on winter fashion, so I would need to consider winter in warmer places like Florida, and winters in colder places like Canada. I decided to be more specific with my winter fashion and i decided to focus on winter fashion for warmer places because i live in Florida and our winters are very different from places such as Canada.

Day 8

Today is 11/5/19. My group and I decided to discuss when we are going to do the shoot for our magazines. We first had to discuss who our models would be, what clothes the models would be wearing, and the place where we would take the shots at. For my magazine, I will have my friend Mike as my model and I will also be a model for my magazine. For the type of clothes, I needed my models to be wearing winter fashion. I had them pick out boots, jeans, a jacket, and beanie. Lastly, we decided that we would do the photo shoot in the downtown area of our city. We choose to take the shots their because the downtown area is usually filled with holiday decoration and also has street art all around which could be used as a background for one of the shots.

Day 7

It is 11/4/19. My group and I discussed the font colors that we should use on our magazine cover. I looked various websites on color psychology to find the most appealing colors to our audience. I also looked at various fashion magazines, such as GQ, Complex, and Vogue, to see what types of font colors they used; I found that red, black, and white were the most commonly used colors, and according to Color Psychology.org, red is the most attractive color to the human eye; the color white is considered the color of perfection and has a positive connotation, hence why it is commonly used; however, black is considered to have a negative connotation but, according to Color Psychology the color black "Denotes strength and authority; it is considered to be very formal, elegant, and prestigious."

Today I also learned how to use the snipping tool on my computer. While doing research I wanted to post an image on my blog on color psychology but, since it was not a picture I could not copy and paste. After learning how to screenshot on my computer and snippet the the shot I was able to post the research that I found in my blog. This new skill could be beneficial towards my project because more than likely I will have to screenshot and snip another image or post to use for my blog, and/or use for my magazine.

Day 6

It is 10/31/19. We continued to look at fonts to use for our cover page; we have already decided on using the Bebas Neue font style for our house style, and we are now looking for fonts for our headlines, cover lines, and strap line. We have continued to use most of the magazines that we used to find our house style, such as GQ, Complex, Hypebeast, and Teen vogue. Throughout my research I found that the cover lines tend to have a Paris and or Lingerie Typeface font; these fonts are commonly used in fashion magazines that include swashes, ligatures, seductive numerals, and ready-made words. The purpose of these fonts is that the magazine is trying to capture the audiences' attention and besides using buzz words, such as amazing, awesome, wild, etc. The magazines use the Paris and lingerie fonts to seduce the reader through the fonts as a mode of address, the fonts lures the reader, in a sense, to read the magazine.
